A DEAL'S A DEAL!
/This story, told by author, Ruth Tierney, we believe took place around 1915……or not at all.
“Steven Emory was a hand-saw cutter at the Lynch mill in Shanick. One day, on his way home from work, he met a stranger on the road. The stranger was returning from a hunting trip. This stranger possessed a beautiful pearl-handled revolver that had been fashioned especially for him. Steven not only admired it but wanted it for himself.
After dickering for hours over the price, Steven finally offered his wife in trade. The deal was closed with a handshake and Steven never saw her again. When asked about his reasoning for trading his wife, he defended his actions by declaring, “She wouldn’t stop smoking her dirty old corncob pipe and I couldn’t stand the smell no more.”
