THE VILLAGE PULSE    A look at the Goings-On

We're not sure when our area started to have a heartbeat,  but we do know that since the first rhythms of Charles Hayes' grinding water wheels and pumping bellows in 1822,  the inhabitants sought to better their lives with  business,  comraderie and entertainment.  We hope here to showcase that "action in town"  and make a spot for incoming information  that our readers are willing to share.

Many volunteer groups work for the betterment of the community. Here, the "Silver Foxes" present a cheque to Councillor, Cathie Jones.

Started by Dorothy Caverly upon her return from Florida, the Silver Foxes were a group looking for exercise while at the same time, helping their community. Dorothy writes: “ I approached Councilor Elaine Jones and we were successful in starting the program. We met twice a week (in the Lion’s Hall) and it was a free, with offering of a toonie. The program ran for 14 years and over those years we made many contributions for the betterment of our community.

John Croskery added: They bought the TV in the background for the hall among other things. The group’s name comes from the exercise video they used. Richard Simmons and the Silver Foxes.
